My New Server Setup

Server Now:

Windows 2003 Enterprise Server

Intel P3 500 Mhz CPU
512 mb of ram

7 gb hd and 20 gb hd

4x2x8 CD-RW drive.

So i set up terminal services and its awsome. I run trillian in a disconnected session and connect to it wherever i am (school, other computer, etc.)

I have:

Apache 2.0.54
PHP 4.something
ActivePerl someversion
MySQL 4.1
Windows Terminal Services

Someday I will set up FTP and SMTP.

    Nobody can 0wn me, because I don't offer hosting and never plan to allow CGIs.

    My stupid retarded friend DOES allow CGI (which is quite scary) and all the usernames and passwords are stored ON FILE in plain text.

    I set it up for him. He's a dumbass :P

    Me and Zen hacked him once, he still doesn't know who did it or why he keeps getting hacked.

    CGI is the interface through which a web server communicates with an external program, usually placed in a certain directory that CGI can only be run from. Generally, CGI programs are either a compiled program or a Perl script. Less-frequent forms are shell scripts (*nix hosts only), Python, and PHP. PHP through CGI is actually a bad idea, for 1) security and 2) the fact that for every PHP script executed, the PHP interpreter has to be started and run. For this reason, most popular CGI scripting languages are available as modules for the server software. mod_perl, mod_php, mod_python, etc, are technically a part of Apache when compiled, so the appropriate interpreters don't have to be continually started and run.

    They're only PII, which is what my server is now. Good thing I don't do heavy php stuff or anything...

    Price was right. :)
