PSU

I'm thinking of getting a new PSU since the one in here now has a horrible fan and other attributes that make me suspicious of it.

Problem is, like most things this way, it seems like there aren't many different attributes, but that has made me rather wary. Also, the huge number of different brands makes me a little suspicious.

Any advices?

  • NeoHEs are where its at :)
  • I advise you to buy this Antec case:
    Antec Case

It's B stock so the exterior finish is not guaranteed but mine is
sitting in the guest room for now and it's impeccable. It comes
with the $59.95 SmartCool PSU. It's very quiet and is of quality
build like everything Antec makes. It's only 350 watts though so
not if you need a larger unit. It' also comes with a 120 mm rear
fan that's very quiet I understand. Good luck.

  • Ooh, I have that case. Thump is right, the rear fan is virtually silent.
  • Most antec fans are slient, and their PSU's are good too. My Sonata II rocked.
  • They're only silent if you run them on the 5v rail.
  • I've got some no-name PSU in here, and I've had no problems, everything is stable.
  • I've already GOT the case, I'm just after PSUs, or rather recommendations for them.

  • Just as long a quality one. A stable PSU is very important.
  • Hence my making this thread. I've seen some truely terrible ones (Including one that blew up) on other machines and wanted advice on the ones to get and the ones to avoid!

I understand that you only want a CPU but buying the B stock
case for $25 is the cheapest way to get the $59.95 PSU. The
shipping is $19.05 and you clear anther nice case and a silent
rear fan. I believe I'd recommend it but haven't tried it yet.

Very True... Just look at eMachines/Compaq/Packard Bell.

I usually stick with stock or whatever comes with my case, but I would go for Antec, XClio and Thermaltake.

I'd love to see what you're 5v and 12v are like.
  • I'm running a COLORSit 500Watt in my case that I got for
