Geforce 7300LE is a good low-mid end one. decent enough for most 3D games and applications.

Not excessive (EG. 1000 USD would be wayyy over the top).

I know that's not horrible helpful, but if there's something that's incredibly good (EG. SHOULD be in the 1000s), but is going for something much cheaper (EG. That 1000s-level card going for, say 250), then I might stretch what I would normally pay.

He probably doesn't. If I remember correctly, he has an AGP-only board... Then again, that was like 3 yrs ago.

Q go for a Geforce 7 7800GS, if you have an agp board, there are several version but the bog standard one is cheap now and provides another 3 or 4 years of life to an agp board.
