Upgrading OptiPlex GXa

I want to replace the 233 mhz P2 with a P2 300...

I know how to replace the CPUs but even after jumper settings, it doesn't seem to work...

  • Did you update it to the most recent BIOS beforehand?

  • Oh? I thought the GXa supported the 300 mhz w/o upgrade...
  • Worth a try if nothing else (I assume the old processor is still around).

  • Yeah, I just upgraded... If this works... Then I'll finally get rid of that celeron in my room.

Nope, doesn't work. And I thinK i know what the problem is now... The cpu doesn't seem to snap all the way in no matter how I stick it in.
  • hmm, thts weird it should fit in. Are you sure the 300 doesent have any more pins? Because it might be a newer one incompatible with the elder.
  • No way... The optiplex should natively support the 300mhz.... There ARE jumper pins for it.
  • What is the Socket?
  • Slot 1....
  • Can the CPU be changed in the CMOS and the jumpers? You might want to try that if it does.

IF your mainboard supports it, then your only problem lies in the multiplyer since they both run at the same FSB.

This might seem like a dumb idea (it does to me), but clear your BIOS via battery. Yes, that's dumb but it doesn't seem like you have a lot of options.
