  • Yea, but "Cable Modem DSL" sounds strange, even for flag_argentina.gif.

No...ADSL is a form of DSL (asymmetric).

"Cable Modem DSL" isn't possible. DSL and DOCSIS are two completely different things.
  • My routers a bog standard Trust something or other. I haven't had it set up for ages. It used to conk out onus all the time for about a year, then we realised that my brothers nic was naffed so i traded one of mine for his and it worked fine after that. (I think I'll get it out and examine it further:P)

But with ADSL, what else is really different besides the speed

And yeah Cable and DSL are two very different connection types.

    Uh dude.

DSL refers to any technology using phone lines, and higher frequencies to transfer data.

    I suggest you read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adsl
  • You might also want to capitalize acronyms correctly.

  • The A just refers to the transfer type.
  • ADSL= Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line
    DSL= Digital Subscriber Line

Asymmetric means like infinete, i dunno how thts conencted but it does mean a faster form of DSL. Cable doesent use the phone systems.

Asymetric means that the download speed is different from the upload speed.

    EDIT: corrected it

And toast topping means peanut butter is better than peanut butter.

And what in the hell is that supposed to mean.
  • "Asymetric means that the download speed is different from the download speed."

And what is that supposed to mean?
  • Asymetric = not symetrical

ie. the speed you upload is not equal to speed you download.
  • yea thts better. Your down is usually double. eg i got a 1M and got 512k up.
  • It's not always, besdies, it can't support more than a 1mb upload.
  • of course it can. I just meant for my personal 1M line. Optic fibre lines are the fastest but the most expensive. DOnt tehy support speeds up to 2Gbps?
  • I'm talking about adsl.
  • i know... i was jsut asking about fibre optic lines....

    Not there you weren't
  • ?? you are confusing me.
  • Perhaps I should clarify.

Verizon has FiOS, for $50/month. But if your talking about serious fiber, if you have to ask, you can't afford it.
  • Not to mention Verizon isn't in Thailand.
  • Yeah... I'm just saying the one service i know of. There are many in japan, but I don't know their names.
  • By the time Verizon gets out here, they will have changed their names (Probably to something with "Bell" in or around it), Comcast will be selling telephones and I'll have (likely) changed planes of existence.
