Bluesun, you can also performance tune the VPC for the CPU cycles it needs or doesn't need etc.. lots of stuff you can do, I don;t get any lag unless I change focus to another VPC

Thanks for the link. I got the Loopback Adapter installed, but I still can't get NT 3.51 connected.

Here's my network settings for the virtual machine:

  • on my VPC, the network adaptor under networking is set to the physical adaptor on the host system.

I've tried every adapter on the list, and nothing. Oh well.
  • The download for 3.51 takes 10 secs with 0mb. Is something wrong?
  • did it really have to be 300 mb..? Im further away and my speed snails at 10kbps.
  • For me it's 0mb at 0 secs. In other words, 3.51 is an empty file. I downloaded virtual pc (30mb).
  • are you suing fileho or thw other one Q posted?
  • I'm using fileho, but will try Q's link, I'd love to sue fileho for the porn on the downloads page, though.

    EDIT:OK - downloading 350.1mb file from Q.
  • lol, fileho gave me the same result it doesent work.
  • How did Q get it off fileho? I'm downloading it from him.
  • i think UglynGrey sent to him directly. I was having problems with fileHO
  • 80kb/sec for me-on wireless broadband.
  • I got it off Fileho, but I do remember the Windows 3.11 download took more then one try.

    -Q
  • You're lucky. Mine's donw, though. I'll burn it to disk once I've updated my site.
  • As to the fileho debate... meh... shrug. I could have compressed it, but it's just one more point of error in getting somthing like an entire computer to work (that's what this VHD is, an entire virtual computer and software)

    To Beanboy,

great that you have it, now bridge the connection between the Loopback adapter and the real adapter in your network settings. (this is not a Virtual PC thing btw)

You typically do this by highlighting your real nternet connection and your loopback adapater both at once, this then gives you the option to bridge them together. You can press the alt key then highlight the two connections with left click, then right click to get the bridge option. This is done in the network connections window on Windows, not in VPC.

Don't blame me, this is M$'s idea of networking.

You guys should thank Q for hosting this , thanks Q for using the badlady to the get the file
  • Don't worry about what used to be here-I found out what the file was.
  • I don't mind the hosting, I might rename the file and/or put it on FTP also to facilitate people getting it, although even raw HTTP seems to work better then "F
  • when this one makes the rounds a bit we'll move on to NT 4.0

Edit: However I notice the my build has Office XP and that will have to come off first...
  • I downloaded it off fileho soon after it was posted. Took most of the day, but I got it
  • It took 42 mins on my mac to download, and 6 mins to burn to cd (including virtual pc 2007 and os/2)
  • I'm not sure why youd' burn it on a CD since you can't mount a VHD on a CD... but whatever floats your boat
  • Following off that CD burning thing, i was wondering is there anyway to burn this VHD as a bootable live cd?
  • Using WinImage I beleive you could turn this image to a physical Disk. By this I mean putting the boot sector and all files and dir's onto another hard drive which can boot into this image. It's just now physically on a hard drive and so can be put in what ever machine you want. With this in mind you could thin out un-needed stuff. Copy the NT boot sector and place it on a custom boot cd and then burn the nt files onto a cd root dir. then you'd have a live cd of nt3.1:P Least it sounds good in theory.
  • cant you just extract it onto a physical hard drive like you said and burn the contents as a bootable disk using nero?
  • Yes thats basically what I said but you'd need to use NT's boot manager or a third party boot sector manager for it to be a bootable disc that works. Thats why I made a copy of my Dos 6.22 (with CD drivers) as my boot sector on my custom dos and windows cd. (torrents on demonoid btw).
  • Do i install a boot sector manager natively or through VPC?
  • No you wouldn't need one if you copied NT's boot sector.

I downloaded it on my Mac as I hadn't yet fixed my other Windows (2000) laptop which CAN run it.

I burned it to disk to transfer to my windows laptop.
  • How do I install it on Virtual PC 2004? I get the:

"The virtual machine could not be started because there was not enough memory available on the host."

error without Nero InCD being present (I researched the error online, first). I am running it on Windows 2000 Pro, and get this error for every vhd I make. What am I doing wrong?

Try reducing the amount of ram you are using for the vpc.
