Windows xp is still in use. So you have to buy it some where like anyone else would or go to other site to get it. Theses guys work hard to keep this site going and don't need microsoft coming down on them for giving away a copy of windows xp.
Although there is a post on the main page in the announcements area saying that XP is barred, that information being given there is outdated, and thus, the logic used by the announcer no longer stands. As the announcer said,
"Windows XP is in more use than Windows 8/8.1; therefore, we do not offer XP downloads."
However, the statistics linked in the announcement says that XP usage is currently at approximately 11%, while Windows 8.1 surpasses it with 13%, with 8 and 8.1 at a combined usage of around 16%. So, since the reason for restricting XP downloads was that XP was more popular than Microsoft's newest operating systems, and since the reasoning is no longer true, then XP downloads would be allowed here.

You conveniently missed the following:
Be over 7 years old. - TRUE
Be out of support by the manufacturer. - PARTIALLY TRUE
Be mostly out of use by the general populace (abandoned) - FALSE
Stitch (admin) is well aware the percentage value is incorrect and needs rephrasing. Previously before the site had code changes, it was at 17% back in Nov '14 and was back then higher than Win 8/8.1.
XP may be over 7 years old, however it's still supported by Microsoft for a limited amount of corporate customers who have paid large sums to keep support going for one reason or another.
XP can still be largely found if you look hard enough (e.g. point of sale systems for starters). I recently had a business meeting at one of our vendors, and the call centre staff were still using XP on their machines.
As been discussed previously, this site is about preserving software that is or becoming increasingly difficult to find whether it's on the net or even finding an original on eBay. XP doesn't fit into that equation. We keep flogging a dead horse with this topic.
