Weird RAM Issue

I was helping a friend with his Elitebook 8440p, he bought 8GB RAM for it and needed me to install it.

With the new RAM installed, whenever it would get to the "Starting Windows" screen it would just shut off, reset, and do the same thing over again.

When I reinstalled the old RAM back, it booted fine. :?

That's the same model I use at work. Is it a single 8GB DIMM or 2 x 4GBs you are using?

I believe this model could only go up to 8GB RAM using 2 4GB DIMMs. A similar model, the 8440w, apparently supports up to 16GB.

Here's the spec sheet, and on page 7 it mentions the supported RAM:

It's 2x4GB Samsung PC12800. Maybe it doesn't support that RAM speed? It tested fine in a different laptop with memtest86.
