MS-DOS CD Drive type

edited March 2017 in Hardware
Hello,

I was trying to use an iso file on my MS-DOS virtual machine, but I can't find the D: drive. The current disk type is SCSI. Should I change it and see what happens?

  • What VM are you using?

You may use both IDE and SCSI type CD drives under DOS, but the respective CD driver must be installed.

Most instructions and boot disks assume an IDE CD-drive, so selecting IDE CD emulation is usually preferred.
  • Does your MS-DOS virtual machine have the CD-ROM drivers installed?
  • If you can change the VM's setting to IDE, that would be best. Make sure you have a driver like OAKCDROM.SYS loaded and run MSCDEX. From there, the drive should be visible.
