VGA - 30th Anniversary

I was writing up a post on my blog with an overview of earlier graphic standards. It's not completed yet.

Anyway, it just occurred to me that VGA is having its 30th birthday this year. I remember thinking how good Windows 3.1 looked in VGA after using CGA.

I'm sure for many of us, we will be using DE-15 ports for a while yet.

Wow, nearly 30 years have passed when the VGA was introduced with IBM PS/2.

Keep in mind there were various earlier video cards with VGA-ish or even higher resolutions. But since they did not have the letters "IBM" on them, they were never considered "standard". Ironically, it was the PS/2s that got the industry moving away from IBM as a standard.

IBM PS/2 Model 30 (Rev.1 BIOS) included original release of MCGA TEXT font.
It is different from IBM Standard VGA.
After Rev.2 BIOS, MCGA text font is match to IBM Standard VGA.

Wow. I never knew the actual age of the VGA standard. My IBM PS/1 supports VGA.

My spare graphics card has 1 VGA Port, 1 DVI Port, and One HDMI Port.
