Microsoft Home Mouse, finally in my home!

edited April 2017 in Hardware
So it came in today, unused apparently, as the box seems in good shape and the baggy with the floppies is unopened (not cut open with scissors as instructed). Comes with BOWEP.

I want to keep the box and everything in the best shape possible, although I still will be using the mouse with the Toshiba t2100 - the one without a ps/2 mouse port.

I know BOWEP is on the archive so that's good, but I'm gonna need to locate drivers for the mouse, and the intellipoint software as well. Shouldn't take too long, I think.

I do not want to ruin the seal on the floppies, because there's no way to reseal that shit.

  • Seems, I just found the drivers! Good!
  • You may be curious to see the other Microsoft mice of the time:

The back three standing up are all the same except the lower right which was released pre-Windows 95 days.

The packaging for my Home Mouse which came after yours at some point, and when the wheel was introduced with the IntelliMouse.
  • For sure interesting.

I did open the packet but then taped it closed again after installing the software.

It won't work, but it does with the track point, maybe I need to disable it, but I do not know how.
  • well, this mouse works perfectly fine with me IBM Thinkpad 380XD (win 95, pentium, 64mb ram).

But the T2100 won't pick it up on the serial COM1 port.
  • Do you have an IRQ conflict in your BIOS?

Doesn't seem so, doesn't say there are any resource conflicts.
  • Well, crap. Aside from having a bad port, I'm not sure what else could be wrong.
  • Yeah, I am going to see what I can do.

the t2100 has a monocrhome monitor though, so if the port is really bad, I will have an excuse to buy another laptop from the 3.x era, and this time I'll make sure it has colour!
  • Good deal. Kinda sucks that the one you have now is (probably) broken, though.

    I loved those wheel mice.
  • I'm pleased to announce I was wrong, the serial port does work and the mouse is now working.

I just needed to install generic serial drivers found with 3.1.

Apparently, drivers weren't on the floppy disk, just the intellipoint software, for 95 it's plug and play, for 3.1x you need to use generic serial mouse drivers.
  • Home mouse? It sounds like a small pesky rodent lol...
