  • I've got original Retail normal disks of IBM OS/2 2.0 (5.25") (Not Upgrade version on WinWorld)

I figured out that the difference between Normal and Upgrade of OS/2 2.0 Retail is on SYSINST2.EXE on Disk 1.
They're each same disks except Disk 1.

  • dude this os takes so long to install! that made me keep my pc and virtualbox open the entire night! @ibmpc5150 are the retail normal disks faster?
  • Look on the internet, for a program called os2hdd. You can copy all of the disks to a drive, and then install from that drive. I normally install a pcdos session in the first partition, and have copies of the stuff prepared by os2hdd there too,

edit the config.sys to set os2_shell=sysinst2.exe c:\os2v200 (the directory that you put all of the files os2hdd extracts.) It then installs without needing other cdroms.

  • @wintddd

Unfortunately I don't have original retail disks.
  • @ibmpc5150 THEN WHY DID YOU SAY THAT IN THE COMMENTS?!
  • You don't need the retail disks. The disks on this site will do the trick. You put the images in a directory, and do `for %%f in (*.img) os2hdd %%f c:\os2v200`. You take the images 0 and 1, and edit config.sys.

For OS/2 without cdrom install, i use a DOS partition to transfer stuff in and out.

I bought IBM OS/2 2.0 Retail (Full) on eBay.
But I sold it after I dumped it.
(Only difference between Retail Full and Retail Upgrade is on Disk 1)

This is file list of Disk 1 for Retail Full.
Volume in drive A is DISK 1

  • A quick test indicates that OS/2 2.0 and 2.1 also work in Virtual PC. For running 32-bit versions of OS/2, Virtual PC is a good choice, especially because guest additions improving the integration of OS/2 VMs with the host operating system are available.
