  • Yes, Exporting formats limited I think... I guess it's what clicks with you & if you can use the soft to it's best ability... Some were never promoted correctly such as Amapi which was quite good but all they had was 'Here's your vase' tutorial... I would've hired the best artists to use the soft to show the world how good it was, Hot 3D chicks always do it as a vast majority of 3D modelers are men... Well, nowadays with less testosterone...

Same deal with the Nendo 'TinkerToy' demo video... After watching a person would think "OK, I can buy that & make tinkertoy & lincoln log models" But you've no doubt seen my BiBeast & JoanOfArc models made in it which are probably the best I have seen made in Nendo...

    TinkerToy demo-

Butt there's buttloads out there, a friend from CGpersia once touted ppModeler (old albatross3D) But I tried it & just didn't see it...

    Here's another, a NURBs type-

    seamless3d.com/features/index.html

However for XP I use a bit older version-

    https://web.archive.org/web/20170722052341/seamless3d.com/download/index.html

    Doesn't seem too intuitive...
  • Found the source files for the LWO Head on previous page going thru my discs...

This was done in LW 7.5 but they load fine in 6.5 plus use same tools available in both... Amazingly he just uses-

    -Smooth Shift
    -Spin Quads
    -Drag
    -Move

    The vids are here-

    Source files attached>>>

  • Bit of a departure but LGR channel just released a vid on windows XP as it's 25 years old now... A quarter of a century... I just happened to stumble on this-

Overwhelmingly the comments are positive so many 'miss' XP... Well I never stopped using it as I saw the shiddy direction it was all going...

Back when I was at CGpersia I was commonly berated for using XP... one time a member was inquiring why I could not run a certain software & I said I was using XP & he replied "Jesus!... Man, I'm so sorry!" Then I stated that it was by choice & the mood changed like I had just admitted to some lewd act of beastiality...

However there were a handful that had same or similar ideals about XP & other old OS... But still often 'heckled' in my threads on old soft...

But let me tell you... If you are a competent software cracker on there you have literal 'god powers'... You can cuss anyone out, your opinions will be hailed as revolutionary no matter how ridiculous, your boots will be licked as well as any other portion of anatomy & the list goes on... I had a C4D XL7 thread there & infamous cracker NoMaD just happened to take an interest, perhaps for nostalgia... I don't know... He contributed some old cracked plugs & even created a keygen for the old version of stitch & sew plugin & had some comments positive on that era... Suddenly all criticism of that thread stopped cold, He received tons of 'thanks' for the contributions there & views went sky-high, hell I even received many new 'thanks' even though nobody was interested in the version (well a handful were) No negative comments were laid down then or anytime after NoMaD moved on... 'god powers'...
  • Here's Steve Warner's Weight Map Painting videos utilizing weight maps & gradients in LW... This was some of the freeware KURV studios videos from back in the day... This was done in LW 8 But all applicable to LW 6.5 you just won't have the FPrime plugin you just F9 to refresh... One plug that is required is the FI's WMapBlur which I have included as well as a nice PDF by Christian Bloch on Gradients...

The WMapBlur works fine in 6.5-

Also in there are some Vaughn videos applicable as well... I like the Halftone one I didn't realize I had it I guess because I have so many 3rd-party shader plugs in 6.5 I overlooked it... Here using my 'FemFoamForm' but certainly not near as good as Vaughn does it-

At least you have a set of eyes looking at you...

A few more discoveries... Experimental Features Enabling in Lightwave & Power Menu in Modeler-

Have no idea what the experimental features are... I was hoping for a stripper to pop up or similar...

One more while tab is open... Here is the ChanLum shader which works in 6.5 & it works kinda like OGO Hikari or Worley G2 for sub-surface scattering effect... It's alot simpler for settings... You want the 0.2 one not the node one-

  • Thanks for all this great info.
BTW XPforums is now DOA :s
  • A lot of stuff seems to be breaking recently. Noticed vetusware.com went down the other day.
  • Ouch! Hope it's just a glitch.
  • I saw XPforums down a few days ago looks quite fubar & what was it? 2 weeks ago chiron was saying that I said it looks like they are getting ready for fubar as ridiculous...

TMTGTR you are welcome... I also need to get you the runtime update which will bring your 6.5 from 11-22-2000 to 05-02-2001 which would be a very much later 6.5 causing some things to work that didn't before but still not the Eki scripts but now Messiah Studio 2.2 does open correctly from LW button... Probably Deep Paint 3D plugin will work as expected... Funny how particular scripts are but you can open LWO objects made in later versions & some scenes as well without any trouble with them...

Last nite on Canadian Prepper channel was talking how US military bases preparing for 90 day power blackout, Let's hope that don't happen but even so we are using pellet stove now & saving firewood, will be out splitting more in next few days... Power out that long or even half would be mad max road warrior all over as peeps can't handle no power... What was it? 6 years ago youtube was out for like 8-12 hours & peeps were calling the cops, I'm afraid the 'Youts' are not as hardy as 100 years ago...
  • Just checked now and they're up again. But I'm here now.
Chiron is contentious at best, hostile to freedom seekers at worst. I ignore him but he likes to argue with you. I side on calling out TPTB BS not cowering to them.

A newer version of LW you say...? That would be nice. Sounds like a major improvement.

I live in the city but I'm in the kinda house that '''Sticks out''. Looks like it should be in the country. I'm not a prepper but am always supplied for 30 days. Have a lot of camping gear too. So far, news seems to be noize.
  • OK, I see they be up now but still screwed up poo-bah... Many of my threads missing a mass of images I doubt anything there will ever be the same...

Not a newer version of LW but a later build of 6.5... It's easy to merge & does not screw up CFG file nor installed plugins... It now works with Messiah Studio 2.2 which I will also be uploading... Messiah 2.2 also has plugs for Maya 4.5 & Max 4 which I use also which makes it a must for me to learn... It's rendering is quite good like LW, It has a nodal texture editor, GI, SSS, etc...

This guy was done in Messiah... Pretty sure done by Taron who made alot of freak stuff-

Well if there's even a month of no power it's pretty much goners for everything... Markets will crash, no bank transfers, checking gone, SSI gone.... As far as house looks you want to look 'poor' as it's the peeps with richie rich looking homes that get raided... Canadian prepper is privy to inside info... Last nite I went to channel & that video had only been on 1 minute with 0 views which never happens for me by the time I was 20 minutes in the count was over 7,000 views...
  • Big thanks for all this goodness you regularly share with us. So many hidden gems from a seemingly true OG. Thanks!!
  • Well mucho grassy-ass friend!... I like making the retro shine, much digging about... My workflow is to use the oldest version that I would use serious... Like LW 6.5 which has great render engine GI, HDRI, Radiosity, etc starts up in a millisecond... Plenty cool old plugs...

I decided I'm gonna reup the whole 6.5 setup with the update to 05-02-2001 rather than just the update as probably some out there would like to grab & play along...
  • Commencement>>>

Here's archive of LW6 stuffs a few I had on archive.org but not there anymore, some new plus another plug working...

PDF version of Inside Lightwave 6-

Mustang Car tutorial in 6.5... Large 183 MB PDF-

Anime Son-Gokuh Tutorial in 6 with files also-

Also there is card PDF of LW7 shortcuts which are same as 6.5... Don't have a 6.5 version Plus there is a 58 MB TUTORIALS.rar that has 120 MB of saved web pages of old LW tuts & info someone grabbed & saved back in the day, this is great as alotta these pages don't show on the wayback machine so pretty much golden...

Also a plugin recent testing 'TB's Edge Bevel Shader' so makes sharp single edge render out looking beveled no need for more geometry... You see even back edges look to be beveled... The bevel algo can be directed to any one of like 6 different channels...

    No Pass-

Last nite tried some SubPatch Weight Map Sculpting rather than for coloring... Was pretty cool & nice way to low-poly get 'hard surface' look with gentle slopes to hard edges without adding extra geometry which already makes it better than spraying billions of polygons like in modern times...

This morning made a SubPatch shape & decided to just place in Layout with a light inside-

After setting up in layout I get this terrible look & it took a long time to render like near 2 hours-

After head scratching I found that I failed to scale up the luminosity channel to same as diffuse & bump so it was calculating all those tiny beads of luminosity making it also look grainy... Correcting this render came down to 25 minutes using lowAA but no AA of volume light-

So just don't miss scaling ALL necessary channels...

So what was the point of this scene?... nothing/nada...practice/melancoly...

Well, WAIT!!... I take that back... This is a pathway light for the alien planet Wrektal & the light is called a Trahhhta...

You see if you take the 'alien' route you can pass off any kinda crap because nobody can say you 'did it wrong' or it's not 'realistic'... So until you get really good it's 'All Alien'...
  • Organizing some of the old Dosch3D Landscapes into proper done content folders... This isn't all of Landscapes#1 but all I'm doing for now...

Many of these look alright especially considering they used just one area light & enhanced low AA... This had to be done because of the very slow & grim machines back then...

You can use as such or add more area lights or disable the area light (except for OpenGL) engage radiosity & load in an HDRI into backdrop>imageworld... Recommend using real low settings at first...

Example here's one that did not look so good with the single area light-

Much better with global illumination even on very low quality setting-

Here's with sphere to see what's being reflected-

I have included my GI scenes with these stock ones plus some extra HDRI probes to use...
