Windows Update, STASI informant

I was looking @ the Privacy Statement for Windows Update, 5 (The one we use these days is 4). I noticed this:

How is this data used?
Windows Update collects the Product ID and Product Key to confirm that you are running a validly licensed copy of Windows. The Product ID and Product Key collected are not retained after you are finished using Windows Update, unless the Product ID is not valid.

(Bold origional, italics mine)

And just what do they do with this retained information!?

  • Ahh crap.
  • Ugh, tracking. I don't like it. More stuff with which to fuel the, "We have passed a new law requiring everyone to have gps tracker chip implanted in you so we can find you if you get lost and other stupid things that we come up with". Yeah right.
  • that is a invasion of privacy. who cares if its illegal. they just want money so they can sleep better at night.
  • To be honest, I care. And it is against the principle of the Constitution to invade the privacy of somebody like that.
  • Yea even if they juse use it to determine the # of ppls with bad keys it's still kinda scary...

  • Yeah I agree.
  • Will this mean the end of piracy? =\

    ......fuck no
  • No, noone said it would be, BUT...

    Do YOU like it?

    -Q
  • not really

    and a followup:
Today a woman named Bla flupa was arrested for singing the song "We built this City" in her head. For those of you lowlife computer geeks living in spider holes, music is only allowed to be played in the mind reading chip installed into all SRUSA* citizens. if you think of a song not inside the Kadafa chip, you will be bruatlly torcured for the rest of your life. In other news, Canada is now a part of SRUSA*. Canada today gave in to the lawyer bombings that we have been doing since the founding of SRUSA* by the riaa in 2007.

  • today the human race will be phased out in favour of robots. the world president bill gates jnr said "the robots are powered by 'windows excellent' and do not have such problems as colour blindness and illnes that humans present" the program is expected to be completeted by 2030. The opposition 'linux' party are rebelling agsinst the move but the n00b army has stopped them!
  • OK this RIAA hating is going too far. I don't think they'll go THAT far.

And music is NOT required for the sustainment of life.

  • I for one am getting a good laugh out of the futuristic newspaper quotes
    lmao

That may be so but I find that certain kinds of music are uplifting for me. :)
  • I'm just saying, the RIAA isn't as big an issue as say, the NSA maybe is.

And if you listen to music, go for it.

The underground ROS army has been of great success in it's recent sabotages of armed patrols in the Redmond citystate. The locals have been seen to be nervous of late and the BSAsto has been carrying out searches increasedly.

Today MS Corp just impluimented new anit-piracy measures for it's new current OS, Windows ----. MS made it so you have to call in to get it activated, and if you go onto the contious list of piracy sites, you will get arrested (thanks to our integrated GPS technology put in all new PCs) There is some disbute to some many people. WIndows --- costs $499.99 per license. Each licence allows you instal it on ONE device and access it from ONE device.
