BEST data recovery program

Check it out:

I've been using it for a few days, beats Norton Utilities and all that crap! Specialises in NTFS, so I've been getting data off our old machine's HDD from 1996 that was proclaimed dead 4 years ago in a thunderstorm... too good!

Anyway, I was having fun with it, thought other people may too :D

  • Nice, I'll have to try it on a few systems and see if i can recover my old FTP.
  • Hmm, sounds interesting.

PS. For physical drive failures, I use SpinRight 5.

Anyway SpinRight 5 could help a drive that won't boot any longer?
  • SR5 is for drives that have hardware problems. EG. If Scandisk is getting alot of surface scan errors, try SR5.

  • Also SR5 can recover lost sectors and such.
  • Well duh, that's the whole point.

  • I have GetDataBack for FAT32 and GetDataBack for NTFS.. Works both fine.
  • You say it specializes in NTFS, but does that rule out of it scanning a FAT32 drive?

Incase your wondering, I've always used FAT32 - even with 2k and XP. I just find it easier for DOS needs when the computer fails.

I wish I never went NTFS.. I mean, it DOES save TONS of space, and makes it do shit WAY faster, but its soo incompatible.
  • I don't have any important shit on the boot drive. If windows f*ckes up, I just format and reinstall.
I use NTFS because I hate those screens like "windows did not shut down properly". It's going to scan my second hard drive (FAT32, 20gig, transfer rate: 500kb/sec) and it takes ages.
  • Well duh, thats gonna happen if you DON'T shut windows down correctly.
  • I hate it. I turn my computer off whenever I like to. I down't want windows telling me that i can shut down my computer. If I feel like turning off my computer I hit the switch for 4 seconds and it's off. With a FAT drive it's gonna run scandisk. NTFS doesn't. So I use NTFS :D
  • Theres scandisk in Win2k and XP. If you turn it off incorrectly it will run. I'm so glad that ATX style motherboards turn off before you even see the screen that says "its safe to turn off your computer"
  • Yea.

How to tell your computer is too old for Windows XP: You see the "It's time to shut off the F***ing Computer screen"!
  • I think you can bypass that whole "time to shut down your computer" in Windows 2k by going to Control Panel --> Power Options --> One of those 4 tabs....you gotta check some checkbox and then your PC will shut down automatically....this goes for non-ATX style mobos too.
  • oh i forgot, how far can this program trace back to? how many months or years?
  • It depends on how much you've moved stuff around/defragged/installed new stuff/overwritten.

  • DEMO version sucks.

only 64kb can only be recovered - and files must be broken down if more than 64 KB.

    forget it. lol.
  • Yeah I noticed that.. it really bothered me cause I WANTED to recover a 1MB file :(
  • Aren't there cracks out there?
  • I've found a few...

    -Q
  • Demo to what? I can locate a crack or serial for it.
  • lol File Scvanger 2.1

Q - you said you found some, put em up. (bounce)
  • I got the cracked version if anyone wants it.

Just IM, email, AIM me if you want a copy.
  • Just goto Andr.net (If you use IE I will not be responsible), type 'File Scavenger' in the search box and DL the ones you want (Notice: If you get archive that has START.EXE in it do NOT run it, it's a trojan dropper!).
