  • once again, windows come out on top
  • They're tied.

    'UNIX' is very vague.

    -Q
  • i disagree, i was thinking of just having Linux, Unix, and "X"P, but desided to add more options
  • OK, but there are many flavours of UNIX.

    -Q
  • there are also many flavors of lollipops, but that doesnt mean i eat them
  • Non sequitor, argument still stands.

no oblo espanyol, i still dont eat lollipops -_-

and if u dont like the poll make a Unix exclusive poll, cuz nobody wants text based s h i t

ps. this was edited because somebody decided to add a language filter

    *s h i t w/o the spaces = shit

note= this was edited yet again cuz someone keeps adding words to the eff'n language filter
  • UNIX has GUIs, my SCO OpenDesktop (I didn't buy it, or a license) has one.

    Can anyone say XFree86?

    -Q
  • or how about Solaris

and a OS doesnt need a GUI to be a good OS
  • any text based os is pointless to have today
  • Look, my svr (SMTP, POP3, IMAP, HTTP(S), FTP, AFTP over TCP, etc, etc) is a textbased P166. If that think had a GUI, it'd be slow as [CS]!

    -Q

PS. The downloads speed to Crapcasts fault, not mine.
  • Look at my server (POP3, SMTP. FTP, HTTP, SQL, PHP)

Its an AMD Duron 1.4GHz with Windows XP Pro, and it runs this forum great!

BULL SHIT ! my computer running freebsd actually runs better than this computer running xp pro! plus its easier for me to look at a black and white screen than looking at bloated plastic shit !
  • lol, yur being sarcastic, right? what the hell am i gonna use some queer text based os for?
  • no im not.
  • You're not, but that can't stop the rest of us!

    -Q
  • my favorite texted based os is DOS 1.1 cause it sucks!
  • well if X means Unix/like then i would say gentoo linux .

To you maybe. Plenty of people have uses for text based operating systems.

    i agree.
  • :( you don't have Redhat or Slackware Linux ::snif sniff::
  • Linux .99 is ABW (in a way), SME 6 (Needs to be updated to 6.0.1) is what WinWDCS runs. We're sortof partion to them...

  • You have it all wrong, X as in X-Windows, not the OS it self. When you think about it Unix is just like Linux, Linux is just opensource. BSD is a Unix, it was made by AT&T, before they started to call it BSD it was called AT&T Unix.
  • HuH?

    X as in uni'X' linu'X' 'X'eni'X' and yes, yes even 'X' windows.

    -Q
  • The correct word your looking for is NIX, as in uNIX and liNIX.
  • O well, X also covers 'X' WS, NIX does not cover that.

  • Later tonight I'm gonna put RH 9 and XP Pro on my laptop. Making backups now. Looks like it's a little over a half done and it's been running for 45 minutes. It's 30 GB of data to backup.

Apparently, some people have luck with Linux on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 5150), but it depends on the distro. I'll make a post all about it later. Wish me luck!
  • I like Mandrake.
  • RedHat the Mandrake are good.
  • I'd go for Mandrake too because of its support of my laptop's hardware. :)
