No, they could not run DOS... They had some Russian OSes like "Search" and hardware OSes...

"Search" ? What kind of OS is that? And hardware OS? Meaning firmware, or...?

    -Q
  • "Search" or "Поиск" was like DR-DOS or PTS-DOS... like this...

  • In all languages, heh? Great...
But I don't think that OS was in language except English or Russian
  • Hehe

Personally I like PC DOS 7.0 Revision 1 (aka: PC DOS 2000) the best; euro symbol support and Y2K ready (hey, for dos that's pretty good lol).

    IBM kicks Microsofts ass :)
  • hmm euro symbol like this

And OS/2 is much better than Windows 95, that's for sure!
  • DOS 7.0 or whatever the version is called, not by ms but by that cool weigner or something guy. PS; that has dosshell i love it, but dont use it cause of..... you know..... xp and all :(
  • (The sewing machine is what I call Q's 386 laptop...)
    Thx for explaining that, lol.
  • I liked dos 1 because it was extremley small (~100k)

    Exactly it couldn't do anything!
    Why do u like it?
  • The stand alone msdos 7.0 that was released in 1994. The command.com
was rigged to boot right into windows3.1 or could be tweaked with a program
called autowin.com to boot like dos6.22.
Fdisk.exe was buggy, it would give a runtime error. You had to use the fdisk.exe from version 6.22.
This was the last msdos that used the msdos.sys like 6.22

Yeah, OS/2 was great, but its a bitch to get it to work if you have unsupported hardware.
  • Doesn't OS/2 have a plug-and-play detection feature like Windows?
  • I'm not certain, not to mention that generic IDE CD drivers (at least for 2.1) are very hard to find.

From what I understand, that was a beta version.

  • Now theres a way to bring back a dead topic.
  • MS-DOS 6.22 was obviously the best, but 5.00 had those sample QBASIC apps.
  • As far as I know they were on the 6.22 supplemental disk, along with dosshell and the like

Your better off to use fdisk from 95A actually as it uses the
    last build of dos 7.0
DOS 7.0 or whatever the version is called, not by ms but by that cool weigner or something guy. PS; that has dosshell i love it, but dont use it cause of..... you know..... xp and all :(

Wengiers dos was 7.1 ripped from 98se , I like that dos & the
best followed by the genuine MS-dos 7.0 ...
7.0 I found the hardest to track down though it was only
ever released as a beta, it's dosshell is version 7 but still
    looks like 6.22.

Dos 7 wasn't on the versions to vote for so no vote from me..
  • DOS 2.xx does exist, but only in ROM form (on old Tandy computers, I think).
  • Nobody likes DOS 2.x according to this.

    DOS 6.x rules :D

And then they went downhill with DOS 7.x (fail)

Why isn't it on there btw?

  • how can you go down hill with DOS?

I probably could give more opinions if you asked me like 3 years ago..... I haven't used DOS in ages.... i can barley remember everything
  • I like MS-DOS 6.22 :)
