  • not much, i dunno exacts.
  • NT 3.5 won't run on Pentium 2 and higher.
  • compaitibilty
  • Yeah, NT 3.51, unlike NT 3.5, can run TotalCommander!
  • NT 3.51 can run office 97!
  • Runs, and pretty well!
  • yeah, i got it to run laods of stuff in VPC
  • so its basically like a few chabges i look as 3.51 kinda as a SP for 3.5
  • 3.51 is just a little update to 3.5.
  • Not little. The kernel was fully rewritten. I can easier say that NT 4.0 is a little 'explorer' upgrade to NT3.51
  • yeah, NT 3.51 + newshell 2 (not the beta, if you can find it) pretty much equal NT 4
  • So it was really like:

    NT 3 (AKA 3.1)
    NT 3.1 (AKA 3.5)
    NT 3.9 (AKA 3.51)
    NT 4 (AKA 4)

    ?

  • Windows NT 3.51.
  • Oh, I see.... that's how it should be...
  • uhm... not sure what you are saying Q.
What I meant is that 3.51 and newshell are roughly equal to NT 4. maybe I should have said roughly = beta or 3.9 as you made up.
  • But according to Slash NT 3.5 and 3.51 are FAR apart, not just a minor revisionlevels worth.

  • hrm.. yes true... Well MS may have just done a bad job with the numbering. 3.51 came out after 95 right? Which means 3.5 came out before. Maybe 3.51 contained some code from the 32 bit parts of 95 which boosted it's compatibility with newer programs. (keep in mind this is just a guess).
  • Of course! In NT 3.51 there was added a compatibility with programs for Win95.
  • so...my idea might be somewhat realistic.
  • Windows NT 3.51 featured A LOT of new entry points to it's kernel. And it can be dual booted with Windows 2000, 3.5 cannot
  • hrm.... *goes to install NT 3.5 and 2000*
  • it cant run firefox or you cant get right drivers for it unless your computer >8 years old.
  • WOW! NT 3.51 can run Firefox! I know, it runs Opera 5.0 on 386 with 8mb of ram, but it will take a long to run FFX on NT3.51 with 8Mb!!... I think.
  • wow, i couldnt get firefox to work in NT 3.51
  • NT 3.51 is a pretty neat operating system. Like Windows 3.1 on an NT kernal thats much more stable then NT 3.1 and better with drivers and programs. Install SP6 on that and it'll be even nicer.
  • NT 3.51 only had sp5, well at least that's what i thought
  • ah nevermind...you right...i keep forgettin which OS had an SP6...NT 4?

    SP5 is about 12-13MB..not a bad download
  • yep NT4 about 40MB i think
  • NT 3.1 - SP3
    NT 3.5 - SP3
    NT 3.51 - SP5
    NT 4 - SP6a

Just note that NT4 SP6a is ~38Mb, but it requires @ least 65Mb of space on disk c:\
