Whats your opinion on these CPUs?

Heres mine.

Athlon 64 > Intel Xeon
Opteron > Intel Itanium
Athlon / Athlon XP > Intel Pentium X
Sempron > Celeron
Duron* > Celeron

BUT...

K6-III < Pentium III
K6-II < Pentium II
K6 < Pentium
K5 < i486

  • I totally agree but 1 addition

    early k7 > Pentium III
  • I aggree with you on all but the P4 one. I think that the prescott is better than an AMD, but that's only my opinion.

    The K7 is the Athlon....

    MOVED TO HARDWARE!
  • Norhwood Pentium 4 is better than Athlon. Prescott Pentium 4 2.4ghz+ < AMD Athlon XP 2500+
  • Athlon, Early Duron (up to 850mhz) > Penitum 3
Later Ath, Ath XP and MP > P4

and yes my ath 2500+ owns jacks 2.4ghz p4.
  • But not my 2.4!

    lets do pi calc tests.

  • i agree with all that

i still cant beleive my parents 2.6GHz was slower to work out pi than fish's comp at less than half the speed lol
  • Heres mine.

I think Celeron is better than Sempron.
    Semprrons suck!
In all other I agree, AMD ownz Intel.

  • Oh I see. I think I've messed Semprons with something other... Anyways, AMD ownz.
  • I think the PIII is a great processor. The P4 isn't so great, I'd much rather have Ath's.

I agree the Ath 64 seems better than the Xeon.
  • The Pentium III was DEFINATELY a processor to remember. P3s were awesome, especially the Slot 1 CPUs. They ran relatively cool, and processed very, very well. And high end P3s run better than P4s up to like 1.8GHz!

The Semprons are definately amazing, and I someday plan on getting one... It may actually be better than the XPs :-|

  • I wish Intel would bring back the P3 with 1.6-2 GHz speeds...
  • I need to build that dual PIII sys... I'm probably going to use sockets, because I want Dual 1GHz. But Dual 933MHz sockets wouldn't be too shabby, I suppose...
  • My opinion:

Athlon / Athlon XP > Intel Pentium X
    Sempron > Celeron
    Duron* > Celeron

    K6-III < Pentium III
    K6-II = Pentium II
    K6 < Pentium
    K5 > i486

Of course those are only PC's that ive actually used.
  • I got a Athlon XP 2600+ OCed to 2.3 GHz, so I'd bet that kick ass on what ever those PI Calc things are.

  • jcmoor... don't compare K5s and i486... there were different generations of CPUs
  • Yeah, I think the K5 was like the 486 Overdrive or something on AMD's end. AMD's 486 was the AM486. Now that I think about it....

OR, maybe, the K6 is the Pentium MMX, whereas the K5 was Pentium? I dont know really, I wasnt into AMD back then... and it was a LONG time ago.

Yeah it was a loooonnng time ago lol, and now it just doesnt matter.
  • Well I'd probably agree with Fish, I do remember the sucking K6-II 475MHz, that Fish claimed lost cookys, LoL!

I like my A64, but I've never really used a PIIII, so I can't say how good it is.

    Fish, remember the PIIs?

    -Q
  • PII's rock

    and AMD K6-2 (fail)

    k5 = socket 5 generation pentiums
    k6 = socket 7 generatioin pentiums

  • What socket is used for P-Overdrive?
  • I think Socket 2-5...
