You could try using OS X or Linux and using a virtualization software for Windows apps. That's what I used when I used my Mac as my main machine, and it was quite good.
I've been meaning to do this for a while myself, but Fedora refuses to work with my WLAN card so moving back to Linux is nigh impossible for me.
What settings have you been using for your Virtual Machines? I'm running one right now as I type. It's a Windows XP RC2 Build 2542 with Tweak NT so it will never expire.

I've tried emulation, but it usually doesn't work right
Try dual-booting maybe? Performance would definitely be better if you go that route since it's using your native hardware instead of emulating it.
As far as my opinion on Windows 10 goes, It's good sometimes but not so great other times, It runs almost perfectly on my laptop but it ran horribly on my old desktop and my dad's surface, It even ruined its SSD. Not to mention no cheap video editors work on it from my experience, I've tried ALL Windows Movie Maker versions (Including the latest 2012 version) and they mostly say they're incompatible. And I'd rather not blow $500 on a gaming graphics card and professional software just so I can video edit. So I've converted to Mac for a main computer. I still need Windows for some things so I'll plan on dual-booting as soon as I know 10 is more stable than it already is now, Boot Camp doesn't have good Windows 10 support ATM.
The whole spying thing may seem ridiculous at first but unless you're doing something bad on your computer you'll barely notice it.

You'll realize how awful it is when M$ gets hacked and all of that data they collected gets stolen. It is not a matter of IF it will happen, but it is a matter of WHEN it will happen.
The "spying" in Windows 10 is either telemetry data or you using their cloud services, which you must explicitly allow during install.
In that case, why did Microsoft enable this spying in Windows 7 and 8 through an update, considering that W7 contained almost no apps or built-in features that involved cloud (and OneDrive didn't exist at the time)?
I am very certain that they are doing this 100% for business, maybe because of some governmental contract (considering what the US has been doing lately with TPP, CISA, etc., it seems like a very likely thing), or just because they just decided to become greedy assholes.
Because it already WAS in Windows 7 - Windows 7 has had telemetry since the beginning, which was opt-in. The updates merely backport more collection tools.
Personally I think it's a good idea to push this, for one reason. XPs unwillingness to die has caused MS many an issue, I can understand them not wanting the same issues with 7.
So, is that the main reason they're doing this? Also, why must they do this when 7 and 8.1 have got many more years to go until support for them ends?
I guess I'm going to have to put up with their constant nagging over this tripe until the free upgrade period has passed, not even when I would keep hiding it under Windows Update as I still know the KB number for it.

Businessmen who still use 7 will take forever to upgrade to 10, so it doesn't matter. Regular consumers don't really care and they'll get another computer by the time 7 is old or they'll have a nerd friend who will punch them in the face until they upgrade. So it almost doesn't matter, it will just overwhelm regular consumers when they boot their computer and suddenly it's running Windows 10.
I am so switching away from Windows very soon. This is just ridiculous.
Wow, who knew that MS would go that far to push people into it's new system. And I thought that the little icon on the taskbar (For the free windows 10 upgrade) was annoying.. Thank god I jumped off the MS boat in the summer to the better and more nicer Linux boat..

"It’s important to note that you will be able to opt out if you feel like it — you aren’t going to wake up with Windows 10 already on your computer. What will happen, however, is that the installer will automatically launch and you’ll be prompted to go through the upgrade steps."
MS is really fucking up with the way they're handling this upgrade. Yes, I can understand them not wanting a repeat of XP... but that's no excuse.
Windows 10 as an optional and not pre-selected update makes sense. Not this "Get Windows 10" tray icon bullshit and certainly not having it as an optional update but leaving it pre-selected and unable to be hidden...
Windows 10 still feels like a beta product to me. Maybe it's because I used it throughout the beta testing... but it just doesn't feel like it's done. The icons are still ugly as fuck.
Just a couple of tweaks and it wouldn't be too bad (more control over updates, privacy invading features disabled by default, etc.). I recall reading somewhere that they were planning to release a major update to 10 in the next month or so... depending on how that goes, I might upgrade some boxes to 10.
But honestly, at this point, 10 offers me nothing that 8.1 doesn't already offer me. The mini start screen (aka start menu) doesn't really do it for me. It's nice for servers though... less lag loading remotely. But on my local machine, it doesn't make a lick of difference.

YES. The "Average Joe's" standpoint is most likely "The Windows i have now works fine, why would i want another one?" Not only that, there are many many privacy concerns, and plus it'll be another learning curve from Windows 8, which looking back, as much as i bashed it, was actually better in a lot of ways than 10 is now. Huh.

Agreed, although personally the icons i don't really care for to be honest, I have other reasons for thinking it's still a beta.
1. UI inconsistencies. While these are still being addressed in preview builds i've tested, specifically 10568, its pretty ridiculous. like the new random "modern" shut down, hibernate, etc buttons and the full screen windows update thing (clearly they haven't completely learned their lesson from 8 yet)
2. Removed Conveniences From Earlier Builds. In terms of beta builds, probably 10122 and 9926 are my favorite. I particularly like/prefer in many ways 9926 over the current RTM because to me it's quicker to switch from a start menu, to a screen and back with a little maximize/minimize button which was removed for seemingly no reason. Not a huge deal i suppose but also it had a bit more consistency on the UI, felt like Windows 8 with a new modern "skin" more or less. Kind of wish they stuck with that.
3. Revamped Start Menu. While i liked what they did usability-wise in Build 9841 and aesthetics-wise in Build 9926 and up, come on Microsoft. Drop the Metro shit already. At first what i did was replace the "Live Tiles" with applications i actually used on a regular basis, but when the amount of space it used annoyed me i got rid of them all and have now what is a "half" start menu; the left half of the menu with no tiles and only most used/recently added programs showing. That's as close to 7 as you're gonna get start-menu wise.
You know what else is crap? The fact that not only does it shove ads on the Start Menu (as I think some may know of this already) but also shoves dirty content in it too, even though you can turn those off along with the alleged "spying" but still....
...that's another reason to hate on Microsoft now. Bastards that they are.

I'm surprised porn sites haven't made universal apps to cash in collecting ad revenue from windows 10 users.

I once had a photo of some random person's butt pop up on my start screen. If I wanted to see butts, I'd use google

I don't get why you changed the name of an awesome piece of software.

I have. I'm not really here to be friends with you.

I definitely agree. I think it's safe to say that Windows 7 was the last good OS from them.
EDIT: Forgot to mention... here's yet another thing for people to hate on it more.
