  • Yes, yes, but why dont you want to run X-Windows?
  • I should go back to and learn Linux sometime. I need more deskspace!

What Linux have to do with deskspace?
  • Monitors take up deskspace. I have my desktop, server, and Win 2K box. I need to clean room for another monitor. I know I could do remote administrating, but it's not the same.

An investment in a KVM would be nice!
  • Oh.

Why you have a file server and a webserver? website...what 10Mb, just though that on the file server
  • Well, the webserver is actually on my desktop. It's odd.
I just play around with the Win2000 box. Mostly across-the-network stuff. I could put the site on the file server, but I like having it all right here on my main PC.
  • Why would I want to run X-Windows? Because some programs are easyer in X-Windows then just the command prompt.
  • No, I meant Why NOT run X-Windows.

You said you could surf the internet without opening X-Windows
  • Hmmm... I really don't know why my ISP doesn't allow me to use Linux.
  • You should complain to them!

yeah war on the fucked up isp's!!
  • I wonder what Crapcasts policy is on OSes?

    -Q
  • Acording to my ISP, I need a Pentium 50MHz, 16Megs of RAM, and Windows 95 :-P

Well now, and they're the lergest cluster of nodes in the state of PC.
  • dude my isp (tiscali http://www.tiscali.co.uk ) actually allows servers!

    "7. Security

    a. You are responsible for the set-up and security of your computer and any servers that may run on your PC
    b. Tiscali suggests that you protect your PC with anti-virus software."
  • Cracpcast allows svrs, but they say they don't.

    -Q
  • Comcast should allow them. They're slow enough, let alone servers.. Q can slow down his whole block! LOL
  • They DO. They just say that so you can't come after them if you get attacked.

My block = (inclusive) 6 houses, deadend, unimrpoved road, 1 illegal, 1 stretching it.

Mmmm... I like the state of PC! lol

    My ISP says....
    166 Mhz Pentium processor
Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, XP or NT Workstation 4.0 and higher
32 MB of memory (64 MB recommended)
150 MB of hard disk space (350 MB recommended)
    CD-ROM Drive
Network Card OR free USB port. (Use of USB requires Windows 98, 2000 or XP.)

Oh, look, they can TEST your pc online to see if it meets the requirements on the specs page. Only works in IE. http://www.optimumonline.com/specs.jhtml
  • I made my own requirments.

Any Machine capable of running MS-DOS
    512K Memory
    Networking card
5Mb of HD Space OR a few 720K floppys.
Browser such as Lynx, Arachne, or bobcat
A Packet driver for your NIC

LOL, but seriously, that would SUCK.

I tried it on my 8088, put in some SMC Network card which 16Bit/8Bit reversable and loaded some browser off a 720K disk, it wasnt the CPU, it was the floppy. It took like 2 minutes for it to test the network setting because it was loading off the floppy so much
  • my isp claims you need

    500MHz processor
    128MB ram
    250MB hdd space

look at my signature! what planet are they on?
